Milkshake played a live concert to celebrate the new theme song for Mini Club Med's 40th birthday and we shot a video for the song. See real kids having real fun at Club Med Ixtapa Pacific--and stay tuned. We will have a Crazy Signs contest for the song coming soon. Mini Club Med's 40th Birthday Party

Thanks to everyone who took the time to visit the Club Med site and vote for their favorite new Milkshake song written for Club Med to celebrate the 40th birthday of its family-friendly, kid-centered Mini Club Med. Milkshake was asked to compose a new theme song for Ixtapa Pacific, Club Med's newest family resort in Ixtapa, Mexico. After weeks of online voting, the winner is "Dance in the Sun." As a thank you for voting, Club Med is offering "Dance in the Sun" as a free download. While on the page you can download "Luna Azul," another song Milkshake wrote inspired by a children's book about Ixtapa Pacific. "Dance in the Sun" and "Luna Azul" are also included on a special resort-only CD of Milkshake music.

Milkshake visited the resort for concerts and sing-alongs April 9 - 14 celebrating the big birthday. It was an amazingly fun time we won't soon forget. Says Mikel from Milkshake, "We made some wonderful new friends, held starfish and blowfish in our hands, tried out our French and Spanish, watched the sun rise and set, made some great music and danced in the sun, having a quite magical time. While we were there, we filmed some footage we hope to turn into a video. We'll keep you posted. "

Milkshake played two energetic concerts at Ixtapa Pacific April 11 and 13. Kids, parents and G.O.s "Danced in the Sun" and apparently all the dancing pushed up the temperature.

Says Lisa, Milkshake lead singer

"The Friday show and Sunday shows were very fun and tropical. Everyone was so sweaty from dancing, when I poured yellow confetti out of my Bottle of Sunshine, it stuck to them!"

Club Med Celebrates Mini-Club’s 40th Birthday with Milkshake Tune

Faced with the dilemma of choosing one theme song from Milkshake’s three compositions, we have opened the decision to the young and young at heart. Kids and adults are invited to visit miniclubsong.fullsix.com to hear the songs and vote for their favorite. Votes must be cast by March 28.

We're celebrating Mini Club Med’s 40th birthday with a kick-off party at Ixtapa Pacific April 9-14. To create a party favor for our youngest guests, we petitioned the famed kid’s band Milkshake to compose an original song about children’s experiences at Club Med Ixtapa Pacific. “Milkshake was so inspired after visiting Ixtapa Pacific with our families that we ended up writing not one, not two, but three songs” says Lisa Mathews, lead vocalist of Milkshake. “Club Med’s legend Luna Azul also tugged on our heart strings, so we wrote a bonus lullaby track with the same title. We really feel that all the songs express the freedom, happiness and multicultural experience that kids have at Club Med.” Milkshake, known for lyrically lighthearted rock music with strong kid appeal, crafted three Club Med songs: “Hello Happiness,” “Dance in the Sun” and “Village of Love.” The bonus track, “Luna Azul” is inspired by a Club Med legend of the same name. Here are the results: The winner, with the most votes was:5) Kathy from Pennsylvania writes: I nominate Ethan and his family for the Club Med family giveaway. Ethan, 5, born deaf, received his first cochlear implant at one, this year his second. During recovery, he was diagnosed with leukemia. One of three children, older sister Emma 7 and younger brother Eliot 2. This leukemia’s only treatable with bone marrow transplant. Eliot was a perfect match. After heavy doses of chemotherapy and total body radiation to kill all his bone marrow; August 20, Ethan received the gift of life, from Eliot. He’s home now while his immune system builds to defend him. He’s unable to be around anyone other than immediate family. Mother, Johanna is nurse, mother and teacher, home schooling the children to prevent the spread of germs. Father, Yancy juggles a full time job and numerous doctors’ visits. Ethan will be quarantined from six months to a year. Life has been put on hold for this family. What could be "BETTER MED" than CLUB MED for a family who has been through so much? In spite of the horror and heartache, Marta has maintained a smile and quiet calm and strength saying "it was only things and we can replace those - our family and beloved animals are all safe and we’ll re-build on this spot better than ever!"Marta has volunteered many hours of her time in the community and has befriended my autistic son and gifted him with many hours of horse therapy and friendship that have opened the door to him in ways that I could never have hoped for.If anyone deserves a vacation in beautiful Ixtapa, it’s Marta - she’s MY hero!!4) Heidi of Utah writes: I am nominating the family of Shayne M.Shayne, his wife Debbie and his children deserve a Club Med break. Shayne works 60 or more hours a week to keep his family afloat. He is a driver at my work and I watch his long hours and listen to his conversations with Debbie over the days he can’t be home but is only 30 miles south of her loading his truck for the 3rd, 4th or 5th time in a week. This wouldn’t be a big deal; however Shayne should have been dead more than 1-1/2 years ago. He was bitten by a recluse spider on his leg and the poison went into a main artery and into his entire system. He was treated initially improperly at the E.R. and was then told after many doctors appointments that he would die within the next few weeks. He has lived, but it has depleted him and affected most of his organ functions. Every day is a battle for him, but he smiles, supports his family and is a cornerstone at [deleted] Petroleum. Club Med would provide the perfect place for his family to heal and re-group to keep fighting his disease.

Elizabeth from California writes: Check out our youtube video entry with our very own TOP 5 LIST: You'll see that at our house: circus school means sommersaults and kartwheels, entertainment is a puppetshow, the spa is a good shampoo, the buffet is PB&J, and watersports mean snorkeling in a raft! Help us out CLUBMED! We need you! Yea, times have been rough the past 18 months. Both my Dad and my husband's Dad passed away - unexpectedly ... and just 8 weeks apart (too early to lose two fantastic grandpas)! My husband suffered though excrutiating back pain that ended in surgery over the summer (lots of lost pay due to the time off). I was diagnosed with celiac disease. But we "keep on keeping on"! You have to when you have a 5 year old to keep up with. We haven't been on a true family vacation other than a long weekend here and there. Just doesn't seem to ever happen. We love sports (my husband and I met playing tennis) and we love hanging out and relaxing and just plain old having fun! Sounds like ClubMed Ixtapa would be just perfect! So ... we're nominating ourselves (silly, huh!)

Touching nominations, from families in need

The nominate a family contest continues. We've had funny, selfless and creative nominations. In this posting, we'd like to share some of the most touching. Leslie from California writes: I'd like to nominate my daughter Deborah ( age 41, mother of Lyla age 3), along with Grandma and Grandpa for a free ClubMed vacation. Two years ago Thanksgiving, Deborah's husband John was diagnoses with a stage 4 malignant brain tumor. He fought a valiant battle for close to two years - four surgeries, chemo, radiation, a dibilitating stroke - and died on October 7th, 2007, on my daughter's birthday. He was a "stay-at-home" Dad and cared for their 3 year old Lyla as long as he was able. He loved his family and had too short a time with them. During his illness, Deborah supported the family, coordinated his care, made sure he had everything he needed, cared for Lyla and was "all things to all people". She needs a vacation, along with her daughter Lyla and my husband and myself (grandma and grandpa) who were all supporting each other during this tragic ordeal.. Why Club Med? Over twenty years ago, my parents took the extend family to Club Med Ixtapa twice. We had a glorious time. I'd like to see my daughter smile again and start to create a new life for herself and her daughter Lyla. This may not be all that creative; it's just true and heartfelt. Funny nominations, despite tough times

As the nomination contest continues, many have used humour even in the toughest situations to craft their nominations. Jill from Florida writes: After six back surgeries and a combined 14 hospitalizations, I am nominating the (my family) for a killer clubmed vacation. We are a nice Irish family with horrible luck and enormous hospital bills. A club med massage could rub away the very thought that we haven't been on a vacation in over 15 years. A lovely sunset could blind our eyes to the fact we will never be contortionists for a living. A relaxing night's sleep on crisp sheets, cleaned by someone else could possibly send my heart aflutter, maybe even cause a heart attack. But, alas, I throw caution to the wind. Like the ocean breeze, I can feel my cares blow away in Ixtapa, Mexico. Michelle from Georgia writes: Clever they say this entry must be; Letting you know a deserving family of four are we. Unemployment for hubby has left him quite down; Bills piling up, a sure reason to frown. Mentioning a vacation is answered with a sigh; Escape to Mexico gets a negative reply. Discover a contest for perfect vacation spot; In-house child-care provided for our two little tots. Xerox and cell phones are banned from our view; Total services provided and no bill is due. A mexico retreat is what we really need; Choose our family we respectfully plead. I can offer no more than this simple phrase; For glorious nights and fun filled days. Margo from California writes: This Labor Day our family entertained at home for the first time since our quadruplets were born. If our guests were disturbed by the convenient positioning of the potty smack in the center of the kitchen or by the amount of food floating in the pool, they tactfully refrained from comment. The following day our oldest child (three years older than the quadruplets) started kindergarten. His grandmother called me at work to report that someone was in trouble, and it was not clear whether it was him or us. In the future, the school would like us to refrain from packing any more beer in his lunch. Somehow in the process of getting five kids out the door we had failed to notice that he’d helped himself to the leftovers from our party. Club Med Ixtapa opens on my birthday, which falls three days before our beer-thieving son's birthday, and two weeks after the quadruplets' birthday. My husband celebrates his birthday about two weeks after mine. We could really use a Club Med vacation and a chance to send our kids to circus school to learn a trade. We promise not to give them any beer.

I am undoubtedly from a different generation--the one whose parents never gave them lessons on a climbing wall while on vacation. (Hence my present fear of heights). The new Miramar restaurant and the new pool lounge

You saw the site selected for the new Miramar restaurant. Here is the final remake of the area! At Miramar, guests will dine on succulent grilled meats and seafood throughout the day and evening---when they want to take a quick break from the trapeze, the beach or the pool. Ixtapa Pacific's main pool and lounge are will also benefit from the renovations. Club Med will elevate half of the pool to allow a shallow area for kids to frolic, and for adults to engage in water aerobics and adult pool games. To note: adults are also encouraged to frolic! The shallow area will stand in the round corner of the pool (west side) with a water level of 2 1/2 feet maximum. A small footbridge will cross the middle of the pool, for easy access to either side. Trees, large sun umbrellas, an overhang and lounge style canopy beds and chairs will provide shade around the pool. This lounge area will allow guests to enjoy the Club Med ambiance while controlling their exposure to the sun. Another positive side effect--cocktails may melt less quickly. However, an outdoor bar located next to the pool will replenish drinks when the ice cubes have disappeared.

We know because they told us. June 1, we launched a nationwide MyClubMedArt Sweepstakes. We invited children under 18, with their parents permission, to send us a photo, short story or drawing in response to “Who is your favorite G.O.” or “What is your favorite thing to do on vacation?” We received an overwhelming response--over 300 heartwarming creations by Club Med kids. It became a morning ritual to pour over the amazing selection of creative responses. Kids, your artwork truly inspired all of us at Club Med. Thank you.

Burning questions and soothing answers

If you're on this site, you know Club Med Ixtapa Pacific is reopening December 22. From December 22-early March, the resort will operate with 96 rooms. You'd like to be among the first to check it out Club Med Ixtapa Pacific's new look, but you have some burning questions. Fire away (no pun intended). We have some very soothing answers for you. 1) Will there be a full team of GO’s and GE’s present when the village opens on December 22, 2007? Yes. We will have all services and activities with the appropriate staff like miniclub, housekeeping, restaurant, reception. 2) Will all areas of the resort be open and functioning given that only 96 rooms will be completed? Yes, with the exception of the small pool on the outskirts of the village. The fitness center, main pool, bars, restaurants and children’s programs will all be open. 3) What construction will be taking place once the village is open to guests? Will I be disturbed by the on-going renovations? The unfinished area will be completely separate from the rest of the village and away from the public eye. The area under construction after the opening is away from the guest rooms and public spaces, near the main entrance gate. 4) I know the village has been renovated but the price is so much higher than it was before, why is that? The village was not simply renovated it was completely transformed to a much higher standard of comfort. 5) With only 96 rooms open for sale the village will be too quiet and there won’t be any atmosphere. What will be taking place for the GM’s who are there? We have a complete Babyclub/Miniclub and Junior Club program. The complete GO team will be onsite for regular day and night programming and events. The only difference in December-February will be a lower guest to staff ratio and a more boutique style feel.

In 2006 and 2007, Club Med and its partners dedicated a total of $530 million to renovate and revamp the group’s portfolio. Already these investments are bearing fruit. Ixtapa Pacific is Club Med's next flagship property and it will be truly different than other renovated resorts to date. First and foremost, the family suites will offer distinct rooms just for kids--see the image here. These make my heart melt everytime I look at them.

Miramar

Not only do the rooms require complete alteration, the common areas will also metamorphose. Pictured here, is the future site of Miramar, the resort’s newest restaurant--an open air, seaside Brazilian grill house. The Controversy of Rubble

The head of construction at the new Club Med Ixtapa Pacific recently commented that Ixtapa's renovation is "perhaps more difficult than building a whole new resort."

Why? He began with the old rooms, pictured here. The construction team literally needed to destroy the room's foundation, the concrete blocks and the moldings to remove them as loads of rubble.

With more than $20 million to transform the resort, those loads of rubble should soon give way to renovated, enlarged rooms, new suites and picturesque common areas. Nestled on Mexico’s Pacific coast, Ixtapa Pacific was the first resort built in the area in 1982 and spans 30 acres of pristine beachfront property.

The resort will open on December 22, 2007 as a premiere vacation spot for young families. Ixtapa Pacific will be the only Club Med in Mexico to offer programs for infants and toddlers.

And don't worry, Club Med promises to transform the rubble to regal.
